Background: A population-based birth cohort was set up in 1997 in Menorca. The general aim was to study the role of different environmental pollutants during pregnancy and the first years of life on the development and growth of the children (n=492). We have completed the 14-years follow-up with a response rate of 83%. We measured different pollutants in biological samples of the mother during pregnancy, in cord blood, and in the children. We have detailed information of the neuropsychological development, the growth and the fat body distribution, and the respiratory health of the children from birth until the 14 years. We also have genetic information from the genome of more than 7 million of genetic variants. However, the end of the adolescence is a very important stage that will allow us to understand if the observed effects at early ages persist or disappear. Moreover, it is a crucial period for the development of the adult disease.

Aim: To perform the follow-up at 18 years old of the birth cohort AMICS-INMA-Menorca, in order to measure the health at the late stage of the adolescence as well as its environmental determinants.

Methods: We will perform a new follow-up at 18 years old (n=410) including a neuropsychological assessment of cognitive functions and attention deficit and hyperactivity symptoms, anthropometric measurements, respiratory health and lung function, and life styles by means of physical exams, computerized tests, and questionnaires.
