First "Science for Kids" Introduces Children to the World of Science

ISGlobal fosters science vocations with a one-day outreach event for children, including two educational sessions and a laboratory experiment

Children took centre stage at the ISGlobal laboratories on Saturday 14 November at the centre's first "Science for Kids" session. ISGlobal organised the one-day event to encourage an interest in science and foster science vocations among young people. The aim was to introduce children to the world of science in a fun and entertaining way, without abandoning scientific rigor.

The morning workshop, led by ISGlobal's training coordinator, explored the concept of global health through a game that encouraged the participants to reflect on the nature of health and the world we live in. The second session, an engaging presentation about malaria given by an ISGlobal researcher expert in the subject, aroused the curiosity of the children, who raised their hands to ask questions and resolve doubts about how the disease could be eliminated.

For the final session, the children moved into the ISGlobal laboratory, where a team of five volunteers had set up an entertaining scientific experiment for the participants. Dressed in lab coats and wearing gloves and protective goggles, the children had fun carrying out an experiment designed to assess the effectiveness of a new drug for treating malaria.

"Science for Kids" was organised by ISGlobal within the framework of the centre's Responsible Research and Innovation programme and specifically the objectives relating to science education.
