Mozambique's New Ambassador to Spain Visits ISGlobal

The new Ambassador of Mozambique to Spain, Eugénio Agostinho Langa, visited ISGlobal's offices at Campus Clínic on Thursday 28th September. Langa, who succeeds María Manuela dos Santos Lucas, came to Barcelona to meet in person and strengthen ties with ISGlobal's management team. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) in Mozambique.

The history that links ISGlobal to Mozambique goes back more than a quarter of a century, when researchers from the Hospital Clínic and the University of Barcelona, together with their Mozambican counterparts and with the support of the Mozambican government and Spanish cooperation, promoted the creation of the CISM. Since then, the strategic alliance between the CISM and ISGlobal has allowed both countries to grow in the areas of health research and training.

The meeting began with a brief welcome from the Director of the Hospital Clínic and ISGlobal Trustee, Dr Campistol, followed by a detailed institutional presentation of ISGlobal by its Director General, Antoni Plasència. ISGlobal's Scientific Director, Denise Naniche, the Director of the Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases Programme, Quique Bassat, and the Director of Training and Education, Núria Casamitjana, together with other members of the management team, discussed the collaboration with the CISM over the decades, highlighting achievements and joint projects.

They also discussed issues related to the management of ISGlobal and presented the cooperation activities carried out by staff from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. "This meeting reaffirms the mutual commitment to maintain the strong ties that unite both countries in research, training and cooperation in the health sector, and we are grateful for the continued support of the Embassy of Mozambique in Spain in strengthening our mutual cooperation," concluded the Director of ISGlobal.
