José Chen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at ISGlobal. He is a Research Fellow of the Lancet Countdown for Health and Climate Change in Europe. His research focuses on climate change and health, Planetary Health, health policy and financing, sustainable health systems strengthening, and knowledge translation for policymaking.

He has a medical degree with specialization in Public Health, a master's degree in Health Economics and Management, with a focus on environmental management in health institutions, and a postgraduate diploma in European Union Law. His PhD in Global Public Health, hosted by the National School of Public Health, NOVA University of Lisbon, focused on burden of disease as a tool for policymaking in Europe.
