Umama Qasim

Predoctoral Fellow Global Viral and Bacterial Infections

Umama Qasim completed her Bachelor's and Master's in Microbiology at the University of Peshawar, Pakistan. Her research focused on antibiotic resistance and the genetic elements responsible for it.

She later worked as a microbiologist in the pharmaceutical industry in Peshawar. Following this, she worked as a research assistant on various projects at the Precision Medicine Lab, Peshawar. She then joined the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology as a Research Analyst, a public-sector hospital providing state-of-the-art treatment to cardiac patients in Peshawar.

She joined ISGlobal as a predoctoral fellow under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions project BREAK through funded by the European Union. The project aims to assess the activity of small molecules against a collection of well-defined clinical isolates. Its objective is to identify promising candidates with potent antibacterial activity, particularly against biofilm-forming bacteria.
