Caterina Guinovart

Senior Advisor for Research and Implementation on malaria elimination Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases

Caterina Guinovart is a Medical Epidemiologist working as a Senior Advisor for Research and Implementation on malaria elimination projects with PATH MACEPA and ISGlobal.

She earned a medical degree and a doctoral degree in Public Health from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

For the last sixteen years, she has worked on malaria research and implementation projects. She worked at ISGlobal and the Manhiça Health Research Center (CISM), in Mozambique, for several years, participating in the initial RTS,S malaria vaccine trials in children, a clinical trial assessing the role of age in the development of naturally acquired immunity to malaria in infants, descriptive epidemiological studies to assess the burden of malaria in the Manhiça area and other impact evaluation projects in Mozambique.

She did a post-graduate fellowship at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in Seattle, where she worked on different impact evaluation projects and on the malaria estimates for the Global Burden of Disease 2013 study.

In 2014 she joined the Malaria Control and Elimination Partnership in Africa (MACEPA) at PATH and since then has been working on malaria elimination operational research, including mass test and treat and reactive case investigation studies in Senegal and Ethiopia. More recently she also joined the Malaria Elimination Initiative at ISGlobal.
