With a degree in Biology and Biochemistry, Alfons has been an integral part of ISGlobal since 2006, serving as a specialist technician in immunological assays, data analysis, and advanced research support. He has developed expertise in techniques such as qSAT, flow cytometry, and high-throughput platforms, alongside statistical analysis and graphical representation of results using R.

Alfons primarily supports the Malaria Immunology Research Group led by Principal Investigator Dr. Carlota Dobaño and Dr. Gemma Moncunilla, contributing to studies focusing on malaria and COVID-19. Additionally, he collaborates with other ISGlobal research groups, providing technical expertise and fostering interdisciplinary projects.

Certified as a Researcher User of Laboratory Animals for Experimental Purposes, Alfons ensures ethical research standards are upheld. As part of ISGlobal’s newly established Core Facility on Immune Response and Biomarkers, he operates state-of-the-art platforms such as Olink’s high-throughput precision panels for proteomics research and Luminex technology.

Alfons also plays a vital role in knowledge transfer by training new team members, including PhD students, master's students, technicians, and interns. This dedication to mentoring fosters the growth of future professionals and strengthens ISGlobal’s research capabilities.

Through a combination of technical expertise, advanced data analysis, and collaborative engagement, Alfons significantly contributes to ISGlobal’s mission to improve global health by translating innovative research into impactful solutions.
