Marian Muskus

Associated Researcher

Marian Muskus studied Medicine and has worked as a physician in emergency care, hospitalisation, and intensive care units, where she gained extensive experience in managing patients with a range of tropical diseases. One of the most frequent of these is malaria, as her department is endemic to this disease.

She completed a Master's degree in Tropical Microbiology at the University of Córdoba, focusing on the effects of Plasmodium vivax infection on cytokines and chemokines, and their role in hematological alterations such as thrombocytopenia. During this time, she was trained in various molecular techniques. As a member of the Microbiological and Biomedical Research Group of Córdoba (GIMBIC), she gained experience in fieldwork with malaria patients.

Marian Muskus is currently in the second year of her PhD at the University of Córdoba and has established a collaboration with the Plasmodium vivax and Exosomes Research Group (PvREX) at ISGlobal/IGTP to continue her research on the impact of Plasmodium vivax infections on the bone marrow and spleen of patients.

Lines of research

  • Plasmodium vivax cryptic infections
  • Malaria immunology unmasked: Natural infections, cryptic reservoirs
  • Hematological alterations secondary to Plasmodium vivax infection
