Mar Canyelles holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona and a master's degree in Advanced Immunology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Barcelona. She is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Medicine and Translational Research at the University of Barcelona. Her primary area of interest is vaccine immunology, with a focus on infectious diseases and how they shape the immune system, thereby influencing vaccine responses.

Mar began her research career at the European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing (ERIBA, Groningen, The Netherlands) as an intern, studying the role of the Neogenin-1 protein in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). During this time, she acquired laboratory skills and developed a growing interest in the immune system. For her master's thesis, she joined the Malaria Immunology group at ISGlobal, where she conducted research on vaccine-specific memory T-cell responses elicited by the booster dose of the RTS,S/AS01E malaria vaccine. She later worked as a laboratory technician, contributing to various projects on SARS-CoV-2 cellular immunology, focusing on sample collection, data analysis, and flow cytometry-based assays.

Since 2023, she has been a predoctoral fellow in the Malaria Immunology group, investigating the cellular determinants and immune responses to the RTS,S/AS01E malaria vaccine in African children, with a particular focus on monocytes and T-cell responses.
