Joana Porcel

Research Manager

Joana Porcel-Carbonell, PhD in Neuropsychology, University of Barcelona; Clinical Psychologist. She has worked as a clinical neuropsychologist at the Traumatic Brain Injured Association providing support and counseling to families and brain injured patients (1996-2002), and at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital of Barcelona, as a psychologist and researcher at the Multiple Sclerosis Unit (1996-2006).

From 2006 onwards, she works on research management. From 2006 to 2009 at the private sector related with pharma research, mainly clinical trials. The main responsibilities were on project management and monitoring, GPCs training, scientific writing, and contract negotiation. In 2009, she moved to the public sector at the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology, which was integrated with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health in 2016. At ISGlobal, she leads the Projects Unit, which includes a dedicated Office for Coordination and Research Management and the Grants Office. Her main responsibilities include Strategic planning of the center and policy development; Scientific agenda management; Ethical issues - GSP and Personal data protection.

Regarding to Ethics and Integrity, she provides support to researchers on ethics issues. She has been ethics advisor in EU projects and collaborates with the European Commission as an independents ethics expert. Regarding personal data protection, she coordinates a dedicated working group at the institution since 2017 for the adaptation to the new GDPR requirements. She was appointed as the ISGlobal Data Protection Officer in 2018.

Since 2013, she is a representative member at the PRBB Good Scientific Practices Working Group. Since 2018, she is also a core member of the EARMA Research Ethics and Integrity Officers Network (ERION).
