Elisa Sicuri

Associate Research Professor Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases | Global Viral and Bacterial Infections

Dr Elisa Sicuri is an economist working on Health Economics in low- and middle-income countries with a focus on infectious diseases, particularly neglected tropical and vector-borne diseases.

She is an Associate Research Professor at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), where she leads the Global Health Economics Group.

She also holds positions as an Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE Health (London School of Economics and Political Science), and an Associated Researcher at the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) in Mozambique.

Dr Elisa Sicuri is leading the health economics workstreams of the following competitive projects:

  • EBO-PEP (Ebola Zaire Post-Exposure Prophylaxis).
  • African Leishmaniasis Consortium (ALC), funded by the Science for Africa Foundation.
  • REVERSE (Prevention and Management Tools for Reducing Antibiotic Resistance in High Prevalence Settings), funded by EC H2020.
  • ANTICOV ANRS COV33 Coverage-Africa: A multi-arm study for early treatment of vulnerable populations with non-severe SARS-CoV-2, funded by Inserm-ANRS.
  • ORCHESTRA (Connecting European Cohorts to Increase Common and Effective Response to the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic), funded by EU H2020.
  • INCENTIVE (Indo-European Consortium for Next-Generation Influenza Vaccine Innovation), funded by EC H2020.
  • Cruzivax (Vaccine for the Prevention and Treatment of Trypanosoma Cruzi Infection), funded by EC H2020.

Lines of research

Her research focuses on the economics of vector-borne diseases and includes a range of studies:
  • Impact evaluation and cost-effectiveness/cost-benefit analysis of health interventions. 
  • Analysis of the market for health products.
  • Analysis of the relationship between health and development.
