Emerging viruses

Emerging and re-emerging viral diseases have increased in number and geographical extent during the last decades. Examples include the current COVID-19 pandemic, the recent epidemics of chikungunya, ebola and Zika viruses and the emergence of dengue and other arthropod-borne viruses in non-endemic areas. The main research lines include:

  • Evaluation of molecular and serological diagnostic methods for emerging viral infections
  • Phylogenetic characterization of dengue and other arboviruses
  • Surveillance of arboviral diseases in endemic and non-endemic areas
  • Clinical presentation, prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19
