Virtuosity, centre of the debate between musicians and scientists

24.03.2014

The second session in the Program for Science and Art was held last 18th March at CREAL. On this occasion, the debate focused on the importance of virtuosity in the creative process, both for musicians as well as scientists.

According to its definition, virtuosity is the mastery of the technique of the virtuoso's art, or of the perfection of any art or technique. In this sense, Kai Gleusteen, concertmaster of the Liceu and artistic director of Kaimerata, said that it is fundamental to be very familiar with the technique and then, thanks to creativity, virtuosity will emerge and will transmit emotion.

Dr. Jordi Sunyer, co-director of CREAL, indicated that in the field of science it is also essential to understand the methods, after which emerges the creativity that "helps interpret the results or see other results that others have not". Catherine Ordronneau, pianist and member of the Kaimerata, added that virtuosity is a way of achieving excellence.
