Quique Bassat Receives Dissemination Award from the Doctorʼs Senate and the Social Council of the University of Barcelona

Quique Bassat, ICREA researcher at ISGlobal, and Judit Vall, expert in health economics and labour economics, are the joint winners of the 10th Distinction of the Senate of Doctors and the Social Council of the University of Barcelona (UB) for the best scientific and humanistic dissemination activities. The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 11 May at the UB's historic building. The aim of these awards is to promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge throughout society.

A paediatrician by training and vocation, Quique Bassat has focused his work on researching infectious diseases such as malaria and respiratory infections in children in low-income countries. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he turned his efforts to the fight against this disease. Bassat has done much to raise awareness of these issues through conferences and exhibitions (such as "Malaria in the Crosshairs", which was on display for a year at the UB Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences). The scope of his outreach work multiplied during the pandemic, making his numerous media appearances, particularly notable. Bassat is the director of the Malaria Research Programme at ISGlobal, as well as a researcher at the UB and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

National Donabedian Award 2023

ISGlobal researcher Antoni Trilla, who is also Professor of Public Health and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the UB and senior consultant at the Department of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, will receive the Avedis Donabedian Quality Award in the National Donabedian Award 2023 category. The award ceremony took place on 3 May at the Auditori Axa in Barcelona.
