The European Union Includes ISGlobal – Universitat de Barcelona Doctorate in Global Health in its Erasmus Mundus Programme

TransGlobe, a new international Doctorate in Transdisciplinary Global Health Solutions jointly organised by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) (Spain), the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (Holland), the University of Bordeaux Segalen (France), and the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp (Belgium), has been included in the European Union's Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programmes, an initiative designed to foster excellence in higher education.

The TransGlobe programme tackles the challenges of global health from a transdisciplinary approach, which has been described by the European Union as "original and innovative".

On learning the news, Dr Núria Casamitjana, Training & Educator Director at ISGlobal, said that the inclusion of TransGlobe in the Erasmus Mundus programme is an important international acknowledgement of the training and research activities performed by ISGlobal, its research arm, CRESIB, and the University of Barcelona.

Among other actions, Erasmus Mundus offers a series of scholarships and fellowships to students and academics wishing to participate in its joint masters and doctorate programmes. The TransGlobe consortium will avail of eight such scholarships/fellowships to distribute annually among the different centers that make up the consortium.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme is designed to create poles of excellence and produce highly skilled researchers by fostering cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe and third countries.
