Jordi Sunyer, Distinguished with the Jaume I Award for Clinical and Public Health Research

Environmental epidemiologist Jordi Sunyer , ISGlobal researcher and professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) has received the Jaume I Award for Clinical Research and Public Health ‘for bringing public health to national and international levels of relevance through the recognition of new risk factors in the asthma epidemic, including air pollution and other environmental risk factors’.

This is a new milestone in the career of Sunyer, who last year was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Hasselt (Belgium) and who in 2014 was already awarded the Goldsmith Prize , the most prestigious distinction in the field of environmental epidemiology.

‘To receive the first edition of the Public Health Research Award from such a prestigious organisation as the Jaume I Foundation is a great satisfaction,’ said Sunyer. ‘Especially for the fact that this prize for Public Health has been created because we need more knowledge on how to promote health, so that the application of advances is equitable and reaches everyone and respects the planet.’

More than two hundred people applied this year to receive one of the seven Rei Jaume I Awards, dedicated to the promotion of research, science and entrepreneurship. The jury included 20 Nobel Prize winners. The official awards ceremony will take place in November at the Lonja de los Mercaderes in Valencia.
