ISGlobal, with those affected by the floods

03.11.2024

The members of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the floods in the province of Valencia and other parts of Spain, and our solidarity with all those affected.

This disaster has claimed lives and devastated communities. The priority now must be to find the missing, to support the bereaved and to restore the mental and physical health of those who have survived, while at the same time working on clean-up and reconstruction. In the first days after the tragedy, basic public health measures need to be ensured to prevent possible gastrointestinal problems and outbreaks of infectious diseases.

Unfortunately, as science predicts, extreme weather events are becoming more likely. In this context, we want to express our commitment to continue generating scientific knowledge to help us understand, mitigate and adapt to changes in our climate, and to communicate scientific knowledge to society.

ISGlobal will also contribute to the aid to the most affected areas through a donation of material, which will be complemented by contributions from staff who wish to do so.
