Moroccan Researchers Visit ISGlobal for Training

Six researchers from two Moroccan universities participate in the ISGlobal-UB Master of Global Health course in Barcelona

06.05.2015

Six Moroccan researchers—five from Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fez and one from Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech—visited  Barcelona in April to attend the course on environmental health given as part of the ISGlobal-UB Master of Global Health and coordinated by CREAL, an allied ISGlobal centre. The visit was organised in the framework of the MNSIRSES project, an initiative that promotes training and exchanges of researchers between Moroccan and European institutions. At the end of May, one of the students from the University of Marrakech will return to Barcelona to study another subject in the same Master programme: Development and Application of Vaccines in Global Health.

MNSIRSES is a project coordinated by ISGlobal that brings together nine research institutions from Morocco, South Africa and Europe to promote training and clinical research. MNSIRSES supports the training of a significant number of PhD students and of around 25 young researchers as well as  helping them to write and publish scientific articles and develop new proposals for research collaboration. Building the capacities of scientific personnel in Morocco is a key component in the effort to help the country deal more effectively and efficiently with the issues that challenge health in the southern Mediterranean.

ISGlobal is committed to strengthening the scientific capacities of middle- and low-income countries by facilitating short and medium-length periods of training in Europe. ISGlobal also offers European doctors and researchers the possibility of completing their clinical rotations in different countries and organises short working stays for medical students in Mozambique and Tanzania.
