The 9th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health comes to an end

ISGlobal had a broad participation in the event, where it chaired 12 scientific sessions

The ninth edition of the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) that took place in Basel, Switzerland, from September 6 – 10, has concluded with more than 1.800 participants from 100 different countries. This year, the programme consisted of several plenary sessions, symposia and parallel scientific sessions that covered three main areas: disease systems, health and social systems, and going from research to implementation.  

ISGlobal had a wide participation in this year's congress where its researchers chaired 12 sessions in different fields:  Clara Menéndez and Azucena Bardaji, in the session on Women and Immunization,  Regina Rabinovich in the session on Malaria Elimination, Núria Casamitjana in Advances in Field Monitoring of Antimalarials, Ivo Mueller in that of Plasmodium vivax, Quim Gascón in Chagas Globalization, Jose  Muñoz in Arthropod-borne Diseases and Antoni Plasència in Health Systems and Social Exclusion, to cite some examples.   

In addition, during the sessions, 11 ISGlobal researchers presented results on some of their projects focused on maternal health, malaria in pregnancy, vector control in malaria, chronic Chagas Disease, minimally invasive autopsies, among others. They also presented their results during the two scientific poster sessions that took place during the event.  

ISGlobal director, Antoni Plasència, who has chaired two sessions on Health and Social Sytems, emphasizes "The participation of almost 30 ISGlobal researchers in this event highlights our growing contribution to the science of global health and its international recognition. And we should give our special thanks to Núria Casamitjana and Jose Muñoz, as members of the Scientific Committee, for their contribution to the event's success.  

The European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) takes place every two years and brings together scientists and experts from the entire world to debate on Global Health challenges of today and tomorrow. In 2011, Barcelona hosted the 7th edition of the Congress, organized by ISGlobal. At the end of this year's event, the organizers announced that the venue for the next meeting, in 2017, will be in Antwerp, Belgium.
