EVIMalaR Incorporates a New ISGlobal's Research Centre Researcher

Dr Carlota Dobaño has been admitted as a new affiliate of the FP7 Network of Excellence in malaria research, EVIMalaR

18.11.2013

Dr Carlota Dobaño, an associate research professor at CRESIB, ISGlobal's research centre, has been admitted as a new affiliate of the FP7 Network of Excellence in malaria research, EVIMalaR. Other members of the CRESIB research group that already form part of this network are ICREA research professors Hernando del Portillo and Alfred Cortés.

EVIMalaR is a joint research network of excellence coordinated by the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and funded by the European Commission under its Seventh Framework Programme. It is made of 62 members from 51 institutions in Europe, Africa, India and Australia. The network's aim is to "integrate malaria research that is directed towards a better understanding of the basic knowledge of the parasite, its vector and of the biology of the interactions between the parasite and both its mammalian host and vectors."

EVIMalar's call for affiliate membership to the network for 2013 closed in mid July. Following evaluation by the executive committee and ratification by the external scientific advisory board, four new affiliates were selected: Carlota Dobaño from CRESIB/ISGlobal, Spain (research cluster 1), Olivier Silvie from INSERM, France (cluster 2), David Conway from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK (cluster 3), and Taane Clark, also from the LSHTM (cluster 4).

At a recent meeting of research clusters 1 (Immunobiology and Pathophysiology) and 4 (Modelling and Systems Biology) in Crete, Greece on 6-8 November, Dr Dobaño gave an inaugural talk called Studies on pregnancy and Plasmodium exposure in naturally acquired immunity to malaria and RTS,S vaccine immunity.
