EU Missions are a new way to fund and generate concrete solutions to some of our greatest societal challenges. They have ambitious goals and will deliver concrete results by 2030. EU Missions are a coordinated effort by the European Commission to pool the necessary resources in terms of funding programmes, policies and regulations, as well as other activities. They also aim to mobilise and activate public and private actors, such as EU Member States, regional and local authorities, research institutes, farmers and land managers, entrepreneurs and investors to create real and lasting impact. Missions will engage with citizens to boost societal uptake of new solutions and approaches.
At least three out of the five missions fall within ISGlobal’s scope of activities. The Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative, has been particularly active in the Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, participating in the mirror group of the Mission in Spain through the Cities Communities of El Dia Despues. Opportunities for great links to this and other Missions among research organisations are emerging.
The objective of this session is to understand how civil society and research and academic institutions can contribute to the objectives of the Missions during their formulation and especially in the last stage of implementation, where the Missions would mobilise dedicated Horizon Europe competitive calls.
