Dr. Antoni Trilla, ISGlobal researcher, MD at the Hospital Clinic and profesor at the University of Barcelona, has been awarded the Big Vang medal in recognition for his collaboration with the media and his capacity to transmit reliable and often complex scientific information to the citizens in a simple language.  This is the first edition of the prize, launched by Big Vang in collaboration with RAC1, 8tv and the Associació Catalana de Comunicació Científica (ACCC). When giving him the medal, Maria Xinxó, from 8tv, highlighted Dr. Trilla’s patience in “helping the media convey to the citizens ideas that are not always simple on virus, bacteria and other conflictive creatures, including an Homo sapiens from time to time”

The prize was awarded during the celebration of the first anniversary of Big Vang, the online scientific section of La Vanguardia, that was celebrated on Monday June 7 at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona. A great number of journalists and scientists attended the event, which included a round table led by science journalists Cristina Saez and Nuria Jar, with the participation of Dr. Joan Guinovart, director of the Institute of Biomedical Research in Barcelona (IRB) and Xavier Trepat, researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC).
