CRESIB Research Centre to Become an Integral Part of ISGlobal

ISGlobal and CRESIB trustees approve the merger of the two centres

13.05.2014

The Boards of Trustees of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and of the Barcelona Centre for International Health Research (CRESIB) have approved the definitive merger of CRESIB into ISGlobal. The aim of the consolidation is to create a single institution with a greater critical mass that will be more competitive internationally.

CRESIB was set up in 2006 to take over all the work in tropical medicine and international health that had been started by the Hospital Clínic and the University of Barcelona. The need to transfer the knowledge generated by this research to the benefit of society was one of the factors that led, in 2010, to the creation of ISGlobal. The aim was to create a new entity that could take the baton from CRESIB and, moving forward, provide a broader, more multidisciplinary perspective for the research activity.

Upon completion of the merger on 30 June 2015, CRESIB will no longer exist as a separate entity. The Barcelona Institute for Global Health will take over all the functions and personnel of its allied research centre, reaffirming its commitment to science as a tool for change. As part of this process, ISGlobal has already taken the necessary steps to become accredited as a CERCA research centre and to join the Generalitat de Catalunya's network, a position previously held by CRESIB.

The Website www.cresib.cat Disappears

One of the first changes arising from merger has been the transfer of the content of CRESIB's website (www.cresib.cat) to the ISGlobal portal (www.isglobal.org). The content previously hosted by CRESIB has been incorporated into the Research section of ISGlobal's website, which is now much more comprehensive and allows visitors to consult the institute's current lines of research , available facilities  and information on the research teams working in the centre.
