This year, 12 new projects use a multidisciplinary approach to address three main global health themes

08.10.2015

The call for the fourth edition of the TransGlobal Health program, starting in September 2016, is now open. The new round of fellowships has 12 PhD projects – three of them directed by ISGlobal-  in three main themes of Global Health: Improving adolescent, maternal and new born health through transdisciplinary Research; Antibiotics and drugs resistance in a changing world; and New paradigms to face diseases in a globalized world: need for transdisciplinary approaches.

The three-year training program is based on a global and transdisciplinary approach. The aim is that the PhD candidates build expertise in specific areas of global health and work with professionals of different backgrounds to assess situations from numerous angles- from scientific and technical disciplines to social ones, passing through issues on health systems, while incorporating elements of valuation and translation of research conducted including end users thereof.

To apply, the candidates must choose and develop one (or more) of the 12 projects proposed by the 6 full members of the consortium: the VU University Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Medical Centre and the University of Amsterdam (Holland), the University of Bordeaux Segalen (France), the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp (Belgium),and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal)-University of Barcelona (Spain). The projects were approved on September 21 and 22 by the program's steering board during a networking event in Amsterdam that brought together the 20 PhD students from the last three rounds to present and share their results.

The projects developed by the TransGlobal Health students aim at improving the access to health care and the prevention of diseases among the most vulnerable populations living not only in low-income countries but also in Europe.

The program is open to students from around the world who meet the academic requirements for doctoral studies and demonstrate an excellent academic record. It is part of the Erasmus Mundus PhD Programme, a European cooperation and mobility project in the field of higher education that seeks to promote the European Union as a training centre of excellence and encourage cooperation with third countries.

The deadline for applying is January 4, 2016.
