Mr Gonzalo Vicente joined the Barcelona Institute for Global Health as General Manager in January 2011. Between 2007 and 2010, he worked as General Manager at the Networking Center for Biomedical Research in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN), a consortium of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation led by the Carlos III Health Institute and comprised of 27 public universities, technology centres and institutes of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

Between 2002 and 2007 he was Manager of the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) in Mozambique and Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Desk Manager for projects in Mozambique at the Fundació Clinic’s Centre for International Health in Barcelona. During these years he worked on expanding and consolidating the CISM’s position as a leading biomedical research centre in Africa. He contributed to the conception and creation of the Manhiça Foundation, a structure designed to strengthen the autonomy and sustainability of the CISM.

Prior to 2002 he worked in Angola in health cooperation projects with Medicus Mundi and as Technical Coordinator of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF. Mr Vicente has a law degree and a masters in expertise and research in law from the University of Zaragoza and a masters in business administration from the Continuing Education Institute (IDEC) of Pompeu Fabra University.
