Elisa Fuentes

Statistician

Elisa holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Universitat de Barcelona (2021) and a Master’s in Zoonosis and One Health from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2022), where she conducted her thesis on non-tuberculous mycobacteria at Hospital Vall d’Hebron. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya to further deepen her expertise in data analysis and research.

Professionally, Elisa worked as a pharmacist until 2022 before shifting to global health research. She spent three months in Angola, where she collaborated on a community-based EU-funded project focused on strategies to prevent chronic malnourishment in children during pregnancy. Upon returning, she joined the Malaria-Immunology group at ISGlobal as a biostatistician. Elisa is currently involved in two key projects: one evaluating the effect of malaria exposure and off-target antibody responses on the RTS,S vaccine immunogenicity and malaria protection in children from a phase IIb trial, and another investigating the early development of the adaptive immune system in African infants exposed to various pathogenic and nutritional conditions during pregnancy.

Her current responsibilities include managing and analyzing complex datasets from clinical trials, contributing to the malaria-immunology group’s mission to advance vaccine development and improve child health in malaria-endemic regions.
