The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking an outstanding candidate to apply for a Joan Oró PhD Fellowship within the Glycobiology group, under the supervision of Dr. Luis Izquierdo. The project aims to explore and characterize glycobiology pathways in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, with the goal of unveiling the role of glycosylation in its biology and developing new malaria interventions.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in biochemistry, molecular biology, and parasitology. The research will involve adapting and optimizing cutting-edge techniques to investigate the function of genes involved in the biosynthesis of glycoconjugates, with a focus on their importance for the survival of P. falciparum at various stages of its complex life cycle.
Upon application, selected candidates will be offered a technician position for a period of 6 to 9 months, with a salary aligned to the ISGlobal salary scale, while awaiting the outcome of the fellowship application process. During this period, candidates are also encouraged to apply for additional fellowship opportunities, if available.
 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking candidates with strong academic performance, demonstrated by excellent marks in both their Bachelor's and Master's degrees. To be eligible, applicants must have completed the necessary qualifications to enrol in a PhD program (e.g., MSc or equivalent) no earlier than January 1, 2022. https://universidades.sede.gob.es/pagina/index/directorio/Equivalencia_notas_medias/language/en. While previous experience in molecular biology, microbiology, parasitology, or working with Plasmodium parasites is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement.
In addition to solid academic qualifications, the successful candidate should demonstrate good communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a research team, and strong organizational habits, including meticulous record-keeping.

Applicants must have completed the necessary qualifications to enrol in a PhD program (MSc or equivalent) no earlier than January 1, 2022. SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
