WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Scientist with a PhD to join the Alzheimer's Prevention and Healthy Aging team (PI: Eider Arenaza-Urquijo) for a 5-month term. They will take over and manage activities supporting the development of the group's ongoing multicentre projects and support the Principal Investigator with the development of grant proposals, critical and extensive literature search, and high-quality scientific writing. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in in aging and dementia to contribute to the design, implementation, and analysis of research projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in impactful research and contribute to cutting-edge scientific advancements.


 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in a field related to aging studies, such as Medicine, Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Neurology, Gerontology, Public Health, Clinical Psychology, Sociology, Health Sciences, or similar disciplines.
  • Experience conducing research, conducting comprehensive literature searcher, using academic databases and writing scientific papers or grants.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • In-depth Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of aging and Alzheimer’s disease, particularly from the perspectives of neuroscience, neurology, sociology, neurobiology or urban aging, will be highly valued. Familiarity with key theories, methodologies, and current debates in these field will be highly valued.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to critically analyze and interpret research findings, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide thoughtful evaluations.
  • Research Proficiency: Expertise in conducting comprehensive literature searches and using academic databases and effectively conducting research studies during the PhD. 
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to synthesize complex information and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings clearly and effectively.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

  • Oversee and conduct a comprehensive understanding of healthy aging and dementia prevention from a multilevel perspective. Critically reviewing and synthesizing literature from diverse sources. Integrate and organize findings to deliver a comprehensive understanding of on healthy aging and dementia prevention. Highlight key trends, theoretical frameworks, and emerging research areas. Assess how the existing body of work informs or challenges current theories and practices.
  • Ensuring preliminary analysis: Conduct preliminary analyses of collected data to generate initial findings and insights that will support project development and grant writing.
  • Support PI with scientific Writing and project development: including scientific papers, grant proposals, and other scholarly documents. Ensure that all written materials are clear, well-organized, and adhere to academic and funding agency guidelines.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Project Development Support: Support project development by assisting in drafting research proposals and contributing to the overall project plan. Ensure that all components of the project are completed within established deadlines and in compliance with relevant guidelines and standards.
  • Prepare a detailed literature review report or bibliography that clearly summarizes the findings and provides a critical assessment of the literature. Ensure proper citation and adherence to academic standards for referencing sources.
  • Preliminary Analysis: Conduct preliminary analyses of collected data to generate initial findings and insights that will support project development and grant writing.
  • Attend group meetings, deliver presentations, and actively engage in laboratory activities and team events.

SKILLS

  • Teamwork: As a member of the Alzheimer’s Prevention and Healthy Aging group, the selected candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team. The role involves contributing to collaborative research efforts, engaging in interdisciplinary discussions, and integrating diverse perspectives to address complex challenges in aging and dementia prevention. The candidate will play a key role in fostering a cooperative and productive team atmosphere, supporting collective goals, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across different areas of expertise.
  • Problem resolution: The selected candidate will be expected to tackle complex challenges related to Alzheimer’s prevention and healthy aging by leveraging problem-solving skills and innovative thinking. This involves utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to devise effective solutions, considering various perspectives and integrating feedback from computational and clinical collaborators. 
  • Learning capacity: The role requires a strong ability to quickly absorb and apply new information relevant to aging and dementia research.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
 

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
