The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in the following main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Maternal, Child and reproductive Health, Urban Health and Child and environmental health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
In the framework of Peris Go Europe Project “Go-INTERNATIONAL - Lideratge internacional de la Unitat de Projectes d’ISGlobal” (SLT028/23/000037) funded by Ministry of Health, Government of Catalonia ISGlobal is seeking an experienced project manager to provide support to the preparation of international grants and fellowship proposals coordinated by ISGlobal. S/he will provide support to researchers, especially to the junior group leaders, and organize the pool of Project Managers that works in the institution to favour sharing of best practices tools and templates.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree; preferably but not necessarily in Health / Life Sciences.
- Verifiable successful experience in technical writing, proofreading, editing, grant writing or other equivalent written communication formats.
- Knowledge and experience managing European and International calls (such as H2020, EDCTP, EIT Health, NIH, BMGF)
- Familiarity with Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) activities (public engagement, open access, gender, ethics, science education) will be valued
- Experience working in a research centre will be valued.
- Experience in budget management will be valued.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
- To provide expertise in the writing and management of proposals - coordinated projects and fellowships - in liaison with ISGlobal staff (preaward, principal investigators, project managers, scientific coordinator, grant managers) for researchers.
- The person will, as well, map the current pool of Project Managers working at the institution to set up an informal group with the aim of sharing best practices, tools and templates.
MAIN SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
- Provide support for managing coordinated proposals during the preaward phase and ensuring timely inputs and contributions:
- Project’s scope, milestones, goals, resource and timeline
- Budget consolidation and justification, in liaison with grant manager
- Forecast, follow-up and control of internal/external deadlines.
- Proposal delivery
- Work with the project team to create a detailed project schedule and identify potential risks and issues that could impact the project’s success.
- Contribute to organize the existing pool of Project managers (Investigator’s team members) to:
- Create an non formal group of people and share best practices, templates, forms
- Create a database of lessons learned on partner’s management for ongoing and closed research projects
- On board and provide training for new Project Managers joining the institution
- Contribute and lead the preparation of a MSCA or COST Action for the Projects Unit to promote the internationalisation of the Projects Unit members. have their own resources for short stays, exchanges, courses, etc.
- Provide grant writing support during the process of preparation of coordinated proposals for European and other international consortia and highly-competitive fellowships such as ERC and MSCA:
- Support in proposal writing:
- Assure purpose, implementation and expected impact are well aligned with call for proposal requirements and funder obligations
- Drafting and editing sections and figures, and compiling inputs.
- Assembling, proofreading and formal edition for visually attractive proposals.
SECONDARY ACTIVITIES
- Identify and pro-actively disseminate calls for proposals from public and private institutions, relevant for ISGlobal’s research programmes and initiatives
- Follow up on submitted applications; coordinate formal acceptance of granted projects; liaise with the legal Department, grant managers and HHRR Department (when appropriate) for the negotiation phase of research-related contracts such as grants agreements, subgrants, subcontracts, and fellowships.
- Maintenance of grants & contracts databases for accurate activity reports.
- Any other duties related to the post as requested by superiors; to contribute to the general functioning of the Projects Unit
SKILLS
- Excellent writing, analytical and communications skills in English are essential.
- Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized; with the ability to summarize and communicate key information.
- Ability to work independently and in a (virtual) team, in an international, multicultural and deadline-driven environment.
- Proven ability to prioritize, work with deadlines and under pressure.
- Organized, high attention to detail;
- Ability to start new processes and document procedures
- Proactive attitude to identify the needs of the principal investigators and the organization.
- Intermediate/advanced knowledge of accounting and Microsoft Excel is a must
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SAPBO and Google tools will be considered

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
