The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a lab technician to work in the ENDOMIX project (https://endomix.eu/). 
ENDOMIX is a pioneering research project dedicated to uncovering the true impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and mixtures on human health, bridging gaps between science and policy to inform regulations and protect vulnerable populations. Employing an interdisciplinary strategy, ENDOMIX investigates the complex interactions of EDCs with the immune system, aiming to deliver new knowledge and recommendations for minimizing exposure and preventing adverse health effects. By focusing on real-life EDC mixtures, vulnerable life stages, and advanced research methodologies, ENDOMIX aims to revolutionise our understanding of immunotoxicity and its implications for human health outcomes.
Two of the cohorts participating in ENDOMIX are BiSC and HELIX, which are coordinated from ISGlobal. The lab technician will carry out the task related with biological samples: collection, processing, storing and registering in the ISGlobal biorepository. He will also be responsible of organizing the shipment to the laboratories.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, chemistry
  • Additional education (e.g. Master degree) in the fields listed above will be an asset
     

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in samples management and lab work
  • Basic knowledge of data management
  • Experience with data management and statistical analysis in R or STATA will be an asset. 
  • Being able to work and communicate in English.
     

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The lab technician will be responsible of the collection and management of the BiSC and HELIX biological samples and the data digitalization and registry of these.
 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Preparation and shipment of material for biological sample collection of the cohort.
  • Management and processing of biological samples.
  • Preparation of the samples for their analysis.
  • Support in the analysis of the samples.
  • Data digitization and registry.
  • Other support tasks related to fieldwork and contact with participants.

CONDITIONS

  • Duration: 5 months
  • Starting date:    November 2024
  • Contract: full time 
  • Salary Range:  Technican IIB (26.066€ gross annual)

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
