The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a GIS technician to join our dynamic teams in child-health and air pollution research.
The position will involve data collection, cleaning, and processing on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing for its later spatial and statistical analysis of several projects
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS
- Higher education in geography or related topics
- Preferable Master/Course in GIS or related technologies (Spatial Databases, Relational Database Management Systems, Spatial Analysis, Programming)
- Familiar with QGIS, Python and/or R for spatial and statistical analysis, SQL Spatial and Remote Sensing
- Strong programming statistical skills (R/Python)
- Previous experience in processing and managing of complex data and large datasets
- Keen interest in environmental exposure and health research
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Transfer and manage data from the studies
- Carry out cleaning, quality control, and documentation of used databases
- GIS and Remote Sensing data collection, integration and processing, using GIS Desktop software (QGIS) as well as Spatial Databases (PostGIS, Spatialite)
- Development of efficient Python/R-based workflows to process spatial data
- Provide input on the interpretation of the results
- Prepare tables and maps for use in publications and reports
- Provide input on development of methods sections of publications and reports
- Provide support to the researchers of the group
- Maintain close contacts with the national and international research teams

CONDITIONS
- Duration: 4 months but extendable
- Starting date: January 2025
- Contract: full time
- Salary Range: depending on the candidate experience

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
