The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a motivated data scientist to join the Biomedical Data Science Research Group of Dr. Paula Petrone at ISGlobal, created in the framework of the Severo Ochoa Program, with the vision of leveraging data analytics and machine learning to improve health care outcomes. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated data scientist to contribute and carry out research that has social impact and responds to unmet medical needs.

The data scientist will develop novel research that applies advanced analytics and machine learning approaches to biomedical data and real-world evidence. 

Previous experience in the biomedical imaging field is not a requirement but highly desirable. Interest is additionally expressed for candidates with demonstrated  experience in the field of bioinformatics and signal processing.  This position offers flexible time working, opportunities to learn and develop and an atmosphere of collaboration, creativity and work-life balance. KEY RESPONSABILITIES AND SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Analyze and integrate medical data from various sources, including clinical records, biomedical imaging, and genomic data.
  • Develop and implement advanced data analytics and machine learning models to extract insights from complex datasets.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to interpret data and apply findings to real-world healthcare challenges.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in bioinformatics, machine learning, and data analytics.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bioinformatics degree with strong expertise in Data Science
  • Solid programming experience in Python.
  • Experience developing algorithms or building data solutions, and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources.
  • Hands-on experience using one of the following deep learning libraries: Tensorflow, PyTorch 
  • Experience of analyzing clinical/healthcare data is desirable.
  • Be willing to work in an interdisciplinary team within a highly collaborative environment

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed, any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
